been reading about the threats that we are of to ourselves, or rather, to our children recently. the perils of global warming, depletion of the ozone layer, exponential population growth etc, will not be felt by us, but by our children, and their children, and their children, if the human race does not blow itself up in the meanwhile. in the words of astrobiologist Carl Sagan, "we borrowed the world from our children".

came across this webpage a few years ago, and wanted to share this with my friends. just by spending 2min of your time daily, you can make a difference to the lives of children and women living in poverty, endangered species, wildlife in the rainforests and most importantly, banish the bleak horizon that may grace the epoch of our descendants.

the buddhists believe in karma. what you reap is what you sow. isn't that significant, even for non-believers of buddhism? what we sow now, the seeds of future destructions, will be reaped by the very people whose lives we wish to protect. similarly, if we choose to alter our course now, our descendants will enjoy a better world. and then it's up to them to decide what seeds they want to bury in time, for their descendants. the "karma rule" applies to the human species as a whole, and not just at individual levels.

as the "starfish story" used often by MOE for their campaigns goes, we may not be able to affect the big picture with our painfully limited strength, yet we can touch the lives of those whom we help. and it all adds up.
